In 2013 the Scottish Government launched

A Scotland for Children: A consultation on the Children and Young People (Scotland) Bill.

The consultation proposed a Bill that would realise the Scottish Government’s ambition for Scotland to be the best place to grow up.

These proposals have become a reality in the Children and Young People (Scotland) Act 2014. As part of the proposals there has been a renewed focus on our youngest children, particularly those from birth to starting school. This reflects the importance of early learning and childcare (ELCC) for the future of individual children and families and wider society as a whole.

This training day will explore the document through the use of materials offered by Scottish Government which allow all those involved in the lives of our youngest citizens to understand and adopt the Act.

This will include consideration of:-

  • What we know from policy and research
  • Further reflection on Getting it Right for Every Child
  • What the roles of the named person and lead professional are and how they relate to our Early Learning and Child Care setting.
  • The Growing Up in Scotland Research and Early Years Collaborative Model
