Anyone who has watched children playing in a well planned and well resourced outdoor area with involved adults will have observed the joy and excitement the children experience as they learn new skills and make fresh discoveries.

Aims of the day

  • To explore how we can best organise their outdoor space to provide an active learning environment for children aged zero to 5 years
  • To highlight the benefits of using the outdoor environment for all areas of learning to enhance and consolidate classroom learning
  • To consider a range of methods to embrace the potential of every child and put into practice with ease within the establishments

Taking learning outdoors offers children a very different learning environment which is motivating and stimulating for any young child’s imagination and thinking. Learning outside allows us to harness the sights, sounds and smell of the outdoors along with the sense of adventure and excitement children feel when they are close to nature and the elements.
